KAZAKHSTAN : Signing of the agreement between CIM and Format Group to create a Joint Venture called CIM FORMAT.

Astana (Kazakhstan), 5 December 2014 – During the official visit of President Hollande.

Today, CIM is signing an agreement with Kazakh railway company Format Group to create a Joint Venture (JV) called CIM FORMAT. The creation of this joint venture will satisfy the coupling requirements of European railway equipment manufacturers (such as Alstom, Talgo, General Electric, and others) operating in Kazakhstan and the neighbouring countries, and the rolling stock maintenance requirements of the local market. CIM FORMAT will set up its production and manufacturing site in the town of Pavlodar, on the site of Format Group's foundry, which currently employs 600 people.
The company will build on CIM's skills, experience, and technology. Its business operations will kick off in January 2015.
Kazakhstan is the world's ninth largest country, and has 13,600 km of rail network. It is currently modernising its railway system, to serve a market estimated to be worth 70 billion Euros . This industrial and commercial partnership with Format Group was made possible through the ongoing assistance of CIFAL, which represents CIM in Kazakhstan. It will allow the French SME to consolidate its presence in Central Asia, and in the longer term to develop other railway activities, such as maintenance of rolling stock and supply of maintenance workshop equipment in various countries in that region.
